UK marketing authorisation suspended for Bayer's Trasylol, following sales stop

11/29/2007 - The UK's Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) says that the UK marketing authorisation for Bayer AG's (NYSE:BAY) Trasylol, the anti-bleeding drug, should be suspended pending the outcome of a full Europe-wide review of the balance of risks and benefits.

The review is expected to take at least three months and the licences will be suspended from Dec 7 until further notice.

It follows an announcement by the company on Nov 11 that it had suspended worldwide sales pending further analysis of a Canadian study that suggests it's linked to a 50 pct higher risk of death than the other drugs in the clinical trial.
